Inspired by a key Theo Tobiasse piece from their collection; we schemed a color palette of warm neutrals, blues, and oranges. To tell a layered story we introduced many different textures to all elements of the apartment, employing mica, painted cork in the dining nook, printed silk walls and silkscreened mylar ceiling in the bedroom, a newsprint wall treatment in the study (inspired by the journalist client), Harlem toile in the foyer closet (a nice nod to the local neighborhood), lacquer, and herringbone-patterned viscose adorn the walls in the shared living areas throughout the apartment, adding dimension and nuanced elements of surprise with each exploration of the home.

We focused a keen eye on shape for this home, with a favorite moment of spatial play in the living room, where the slender grid of the day-wall system is juxtaposed against a serpentine rope light and the curves of objects featured in the wall. With organic edges, the spalted maple coffee table base highlights the straight edges of its glass risers and top, and a whimsical textile for the dining nook banquette is paired with a custom rug that marries straight lines with a more natural shape.
